Borrowing

[css/emarg.htm] Books may be borrowed for 4 weeks. Reference books and journals are however to be used in the library only.

Library card
A library card is needed to borrow books. In the case of students, the University ID card works as their library card. Members of staff use their staff ID card. The borrower number is written on the back of the card. Other users are required to order a library card from the circulation desk.

Electronic catalogue: Bibsys
Bibsys is the electronic common catalogue of the Norwegian universities. Click here for a short introduction to Bibsys.
You can search for literature and order it from your own computer by using Web Bibsys. All you need to do is find in the database the item(s) you are interested in and follow the instructions to order loans or copies.
If you order from the user terminals in the library:
1. click on ’Skriv ut bestilling’ (‘print out order’) at the top of the screen on your right hand side;
2. write your full name and borrower number;
3. hand in your print-out to the circulation desk staff.

Closed storage rooms
The storage rooms in the Arts Library are not open to the public. Items must thus be ordered by the user and fetched for them. When you hand in your order, you will be informed when the item(s) will be ready for collection. Please note that items ordered through Bibsys on the Internet are not ready for collection until the following day after 2.00 pm.
Please note also that members of staff as well as hovedfag/MA students do have access to the Dewey storage room. They can fetch the items they wish to borrow themselves and have them checked out on the spot. Same procedure applies to the Grieg Academy Library.

My BIBSYS (Norwegian only)
You may check yourself what you have on loan through this service.
You are given information about checking out and due dates and about when you reserved or booked items.
All you need is your borrower number and a password. The password is sent to you. In addition, you can order up to five permanent topic searches in Bibsys. Once a week you are updated by e-mail on new acquisitions and orders within the chosen topics at both the University Library of Bergen and the other Bibsys libraries.
Borrowing from other faculty libraries at the University of Bergen
Users are required to go to the library personally and get the relevant items themselves when borrowing from the following faculty libraries: Law, Psychology, Mathematics/Natural Science and Social Science.
When borrowing from the Medicine and Odontology libraries, users may contact the department service (’instituttjenesten’) at the Arts Library circulation desk.

Interlibrary loan
Only students and staff members at the University of Bergen can use the interlibrary loan service. Please note that photocopies cost NKR 60 per article. Students are required to pay cash for the article as they pick it up. Staff members are required to provide the borrower number of their institution as they place their order.
