Agenda of the Meeting

List of participants

During the last CRIS conference in Luxembourg Jostein Hauge had the idea to host the next EuroCRIS platform meeting within my university. I am now very happy to see you all here in Vienna.

I am working at the University Extension Centre of the Vienna University of Technology. Our university is one of 5 universities in Vienna. We have 3 other schools of higher education here. My job is to manage the local Research Information System for our own university (http://fodok.tuwien.ac.at/online/links.html). We are collecting our research data online with authorization checking. Whenever the researchers key in their data into the online form using their browsers the information is stored directly into SGML structured files of our Linux system. From such files the research data is exported into different products (like Web sites, books, CD-ROMs) and also into larger databases like ERGO.

From 1989 on I was the manager of the Austrian University Research Documentation named FoDok Austria and was collecting and providing all data centrally for all Austrian Universities. This database with all university research information of a whole country was one of the first national systems in Europe. These old data are still online available http://derpi.tuwien.ac.at and were put also on a CD-ROM "Austria Forte 1996" (produced by us in cooperation with Mrs. Schmeikal and Mr. Holzer) and marketed by us.

Under the coordination of Mrs. Schmeikal (Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration) and Mr. Holzer (Technical University in Graz) a new Austrian Research Information System (AURIS) has been developed by a study group of all Austrian universities within the last years. Also Mr. Hermann Huemer (participant to the EuroCRIS Meeting in Vienna) from the University of Agricultural Sciences inVienna and I have been in this study group. This new database with locally collected data from all Austrian universities will be presented by Mr.Holzer Saturday morning.

The discussion of the Vienna EuroCRIS platform meeting will be chaired by our EuroCRIS Secretary Jostein Hauge. I wish us an interesting discussion and that we will find a lot of new ideas (maybe also for new projects) how to improve the service for our users. I am the local organizer of this Platform Meeting and I will care about your problems concerning your stay in Vienna.

Today (Friday) evening at 18.15 a bus will bring us from here (library) to the Vienna Prater.

Then we will go up the hill to the Schloss Cobenzl where we will have our dinner at about 20 till 23.30 o'clock.. We will be back here at midnight.

Further information about Vienna you can find at http://info.wien.at/index_e.html or in German language at http://www.magwien.gv.at/. You can find a city information office behind the state opera house at the beginning of the Kärntner Straße.
