Short report from Vigdis
Kvalheim, presented on the Amsterdam platform meeting
Some main points from the
discussions during the Maribor EuroCRIS meeting on October 6-7 2000,
Jostein H. Hauge, University of
Bergen
- Eric
Canterella agreed to take over the Secretary function of the Platform.
- Extended
discussions were held on professional co-operation in the CRIS field
in Europe. For some years the situation has been that the EU, through
CORDIS, has taken important initiatives within the research
documentation area. This has to some extent also changed the profile
and contents of the EuroCRIS organisation as a major part of the
platform members have been actively
co-operating on CORDIS related CRIS projects. As examples were
mentioned that CORDIS has taken the initiative to develop a European
research database called ERGO
(European Research Gateway On-Line). A pilot version has been launched.
Related to the ERGO work there have moreover been professional
developmental activities, the most important of which has been the
work on CERIF 2000, i.e. an extended data model for research
documentation systems .
- CORDIS
has twice financed and been administratively responsible for European
CRIS conferences, in Luxembourg in 1998 and Helsinki in 2000. This
conference series started in Bergen in 1991.
- It
was decided to take back the professional and administrative
responsibility for the CRIS conferences. The representative from
Germany, dr. Wolfgang Adamczak from the University of Kassel was asked
to arrange the next international CRIS conference in Kassel in the
autumn of 2002.
- The
next platform meeting will be held in Brussels at end of May next year
(later changed to Amsterdam).
- Recommended
topics for discussion at the next meeting:
- The organising of the CRIS conference 2002 in Kassel
- The use of multimedia in systems for research documentation
- Classification systems used in the documentation of scientific
activities
- The use of metadata in CRISs
- Presentations by members of new technical and methodological
solutions within the field of research documentation
By the end of the
meeting, a proposal was made to establish a discussion forum for EuroCRIS
members. Two weeks after the meeting in Maribor The Section for Research
Documentation at the University of Bergen made a 'bbs' available to
members. This service has been based on the freeware system ezboard.
